JUMP TO:

J.J. McCarthy won a national championship in his final season at Michigan, but he entered the NFL with plenty to prove. Even after he missed his rookie season with a knee injury, the Vikings put their faith in him to be their starter in 2025 and perhaps beyond.

For the former No. 10 pick, the situation couldn't be much better. Minnesota used the money it could have spent on Sam Darnold and invested in its defense and offensive line, adding to the units surrounding McCarthy to give him every chance to succeed.

If he does succeed, McCarthy could be staring down a lucrative contract extension when he becomes eligible.

Here's a look at McCarthy's net worth and career earnings as he gets his NFL career off and running.

McCarthy's net worth was estimated to be near $1 million when he entered the NFL, but it has likely risen since receiving a $12.7 million signing bonus with his rookie contract in 2024.

McCarthy won't be able to make franchise quarterback money until at least 2028, when his fifth-year option would kick in, but he has a chance to put himself in position for a lucrative extension if he can prove to be the Vikings' long-term quarterback solution.

McCarthy didn't play in his rookie season, but he did get paid. The Michigan product has earned $13.5 million through the 2024 season, with the vast majority of that money coming through the signing bonus he received when he agreed to his rookie contract, according to Spotrac.

McCarthy also received a $4 million payout from the NFL Players Association from licensing deals after the 2024 season. Rookies tend to receive higher payouts because their merchandise is brand new and, in many cases, sells well with a new fan base.
