Jets vs. Broncos final score, results: Denver sacks Justin Fields 9 times as New York falls to 0-6 image

JUMP TO:

To be a contender, sometimes you have to win ugly. The Denver Broncos won ugly in London on Sunday.

A strong offensive start gave way to a sluggish offensive second half for Denver, which faced rare resistance from a New York Jets defense that had an abysmal start to the season.

Everything the Jets' defense did well, though, the Broncos' defense did better. Denver sacked Justin Fields a whopping nine times and shut down the Jets' running game, which has been a strength early in the season. Breece Hall was limited to just 2.2 yards per carry, while Fields threw for only 45 yards in the Jets' loss.

The Jets finished with only 82 total yards and -10 passing yards, when accounting for yardage lost on sacks.

Sean Payton won't be thrilled with his offense on the long flight home from London, but the Broncos made a habit of earning gritty wins in 2024 and proved again Sunday that they know how to win close games.

Denver sits atop the AFC West for at least a few hours, while the Jets remain the NFL's only winless team through six weeks. New York's quest for win No. 1 will continue at home against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7.

Jets vs. Broncos updates, highlights from 2025 NFL London game

All times Eastern.

Final: Broncos 13, Jets 11

12:32 p.m. — Fittingly, Fields is sacked on fourth down to end the Jets' hopes. The Broncos have nine sacks today, and that's going to be enough to take them to 4-2.

12:31 p.m. — Wilson takes a shot on fourth down and Fields' pass comes up incomplete. It's 4th & 8.

12:30 p.m. — Fields is sacked AGAIN after the Jets pick up a first down, pulling them further from field goal range. He's been sacked eight times today.

12:25 p.m. — Fields fumbles the snap on first down, but Breece Hall picks it up and runs for seven yards. The Jets are at midfield at the two-minute warning.

12:24 p.m. — The Jets will start in their own territory, but a first down would be enough to get them across midfield. They have 2:23 to work with.

12:23 p.m. — Nix is sacked on third down, and the Jets should have decent field position on their upcoming drive. This will be Fields' last chance, but all New York needs is a field goal.

12:19 p.m. — Fields is swallowed up on third down, and the Jets' offense just has no chance right now against Denver's defense. Fields has been sacked seven times. New York will have to punt again and may not get the ball back this time.

Broncos 13, Jets 11

12:16 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The Broncos wanted more than a field goal, but with the way their defense is playing, they have to feel good about a 13-11 lead. The Jets have five minutes to take it back.

12:15 p.m. — Nix's pass to the corner of the end zone is incomplete, and that will bring out Wil Lutz.

12:14 p.m. — A big 3rd & Goal is coming for both sides as the Jets try to hold the Broncos to a field goal attempt.

12:11 p.m. — The Jets get burned on third down, giving up a big 23-yard completion to Marvin Mims, and Denver is rolling into field goal range with a chance to take the lead.

12:08 p.m. — Denver picks up a first down on a 12-yard completion to Engram, who has five catches for 42 yards today.

12:04 p.m. — That first down is all the Jets can get, as Fields comes up one yard short on 3rd & 5 and forces New York to punt from its own territory. The Broncos will try to gather some offensive momentum for the first time this half.

12:01 p.m. — Breece Hall gives the Jets some breathing room with a first down.

11:56 a.m. — The Jets get yet another stop on third down. Steve Wilks is earning himself some more time in his role as defensive coordinator with this second half. Can New York's offense back him up?

End of third quarter: Jets 11, Broncos 10

11:51 a.m. — Fields is sacked AGAIN. He's been sacked six times and has thrown for only 38 yards. Jonathon Cooper is up to 1.5 sacks today. The Broncos will get this ball back.

11:49 a.m. — Wow, a Garrett Wilson fumble is overturned, preventing what looked like an instant scoring opportunity for the Broncos. New York still faces 3rd & 6.

11:45 a.m. — Denver's offense is really struggling to get anything going right now. The Broncos opt to run the ball on 3rd & 10 deep in their own territory and will let their defense go to work again.

11:40 a.m. — The Jets have the lead, but they can't add onto it. Fields is sacked by Talanoa Hufanga on third down, and New York is now 2-for-11 on third downs today.

Jets 11, Broncos 10

11:37 a.m. SAFETY — The Jets do pin the Broncos, and it turns into a safety! A holding penalty in the end zone puts the Jets in front, 11-10.

11:31 a.m. — Fields' third down pass to Wilson is incomplete, and the Jets are going to have to punt here in Broncos territory. They'll try to pin the Broncos' offense.

11:29 a.m. — The Jets are still moving slowly, but they pick up a first down on a short Fields run and are into Broncos territory as they look to take the lead.

11:23 a.m. — The Jets force another punt and now can take the lead with any score on their next drive. Steve Wilks' defense is playing some of its best football of the season now, though the bar is low.

Broncos 10, Jets 9

11:18 a.m. FIELD GOAL — Surprise, surprise: The Jets settle for a field goal, but it's enough to make this a one-point game.

11:14 a.m. — The Jets are driving for the first time today, picking up three first downs to approach the red zone as the running game starts to get going.

End of first half: Broncos 10, Jets 6

10:58 a.m. — The fake punt kept the Broncos off the field, but it wasn't nearly enough to score. The Jets pass on a timeout with 30 seconds left and 4th & 1, passing on the chance to get into field goal range. The half ends with the Broncos leading 10-6, and it sure feels like the gap should be wider.

10:53 a.m. — It's a fake! Breece Hall doesn't pick up much, but he gets enough for the first down.

10:49 a.m. — Breece Hall can't pick up two yards on third down, and the Jets are punting on 4th & 1 to try to pin the Broncos.

10:48 a.m. — Garrett Wilson hauls in his first catch, but some excellent tackling takes him down short of the first down. It's 3rd & 2 for the Jets, who aren't moving quickly enough.

10:45 a.m. — The Jets' first first down of the day comes on a short completion to Josh Reynolds. New York still has a long way to go just to get into field goal range as we hit the two-minute warning.

10:41 a.m. — The Jets' defense is starting to settle in as they get the Broncos off the field for the second consecutive possession. New York doesn't have a first down but can (theoretically) take the lead on this drive.

10:38 a.m. — A third holding penalty for Matt Peart erases a big gain for Denver.

10:32 a.m. — Jonathon Cooper sacks Justin Fields to stifle another Jets drive! New York remains without a first down.

10:30 a.m. — Garrett Wilson's first target is a drop, setting up 3rd & 15.

10:25 a.m. — Nix's third down pass falls incomplete, and the Jets finally get the Broncos off the field. New York is looking for first down No. 1 of the day.

10:24 a.m. — The Jets will try to get the Broncos off the field on 3rd & 5 and keep Denver out of field goal range.

10:17 a.m. — Nix finds Engram again on third down to extend the drive.

10:15 a.m. — Nix takes a big shot on first down, but Marvin Mims is covered well and can't get to it.

10:12 a.m. — Justin Fields misses Arian Smith on third down, and it's another 3-and-out for the Jets. New York doesn't yet have a first down.

End of first quarter: Broncos 10, Jets 6

10:06 a.m. TOUCHDOWN — Nix finds Nate Adkins for the touchdown! It's only Adkins' fourth catch of the season, but it's enough to out the Broncos in front 10-6 at the end of the first quarter.

10:05 a.m. — Another third down? No problem. Nix hits Evan Engram for 16 yards to take Denver into the red zone.

10:02 a.m. — The Broncos go for it on 4th & 5, and Sean Payton wins that battle, finding Evan Engram for 11 to keep the drive alive.

10:00 a.m. — A holding penalty against Matt Peart backs up the Broncos to a 2nd & 20.

9:58 a.m. — Nix hits Courtland Sutton for a nice gain to approach midfield and jumpstart Denver's drive.

9:54 a.m. FIELD GOAL — The Broncos quickly force another field goal attempt as the Jets pick up a total of one yard in three plays. New York leads again, 6-3.

9:51 a.m. — There goes Kene Nwangwu, who breaks free for a 72-yard return and sets up the Jets only a few yards out from the red zone.

9:48 a.m. FIELD GOAL — The Broncos couldn't recover from a false start, but Wil Lutz impresses with a 57-yard field goal to even the score.

9:43 a.m. — The Jets continue to get gashed on third down this season, as Pat Bryant extends the Broncos' drive and takes Denver into New York territory.

9:40 a.m. FIELD GOAL — The Jets turn their first turnover into points with a Folk field goal. New York leads, 3-0.

9:39 a.m. — The Broncos quickly stop the Jets, but Justin Fields picked up enough yardage on third down to bring out Nick Folk for a 52-yard try.

9:36 a.m. FUMBLE — Just like that, the Jets have their first takeaway of the season! Bo Nix did a nice job of escaping to get the ball to Troy Franklin for a first down, but Franklin coughed it up.

9:32 a.m. — The Broncos start with the ball and will give the Jets' hurting defense an early test.

9:30 a.m. — The anthems have been sung, and we are ready for football on this Sunday!

9:20 a.m. — The Jets are looking for their first takeaway this season, hoping to end a drought that has reached historic proportions. Since turnovers started being tracked in 1933, that is something no team can say.

9:10 a.m. — And the inactives for the Broncos:

9:05 a.m.  Jermaine Johnson is active for the Jets.
