Eagles playoff picture: Updated chances for Philadelphia to make postseason in Week 14 image

The Philadelphia Eagles are currently navigating one of the most unpredictable playoff races in the NFC, sitting atop their division but doing so with an alarming lack of the invincibility they displayed en route to their Super Bowl victory just last season.

While the Eagles remain firmly in the playoff picture — and still control their own path to repeating as NFC East champions — the defending champions have recently shown significant vulnerabilities; a two-game losing streak and mounting questions about offensive consistency and defensive fatigue have cast doubt on their ability to sustain a deep postseason run.

There is still time for Philadelphia to get back to its dominant ways, starting on "Monday Night Football" in Los Angeles against the Chargers.

Here's where the Eagles stand in the playoff picture heading into the Week 14 matchup.

The Eagles (8-4) currently maintain control of their own destiny, sitting in first place in the NFC East, two games ahead of the second-place Dallas Cowboys (6-6-1). This divisional lead, widened by a Cowboys loss in Week 14, provides a vital cushion that shields them from the immediate threat of falling into the crowded Wild Card pack.

Their primary objective remains holding onto the division title, which would guarantee them a top-four seed and at least one home playoff game. Given their remaining schedule, which features multiple matchups against eliminated division rivals, the path to repeating as NFC East champions is straightforward, but it requires them to regain their dominant form.

Though, despite the divisional lead, the Eagles' recent struggles have caused them to slip in the overall NFC seeding race, where they are currently battling for the No. 3 seed. They trail the top teams in the NFC West and NFC North, including the 10-3 Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks, and the 9-3-1 Green Bay Packers. The Eagles' two-game losing streak has significantly diminished their chances of securing the coveted first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Should the Eagles falter and lose their hold on the NFC East, they would be thrust into a precarious Wild Card battle against a highly competitive field. Teams like the 9-4 Chicago Bears and 9-4 San Francisco 49ers are currently occupying the Wild Card spots and are playing their best football. The 8-5 Detroit Lions and 7-6 Carolina Panthers also remain within striking distance. The Eagles possess an excellent conference record (7-3) which would aid them in any tiebreaker scenario, but the drop from a divisional crown to a No. 5 or No. 6 seed would mean playing every playoff game on the road.

Eagles remaining schedule

Philadelphia sits in the driver's seat when it comes to the NFC East title, meaning a mediocre record over the final stretch should be enough to clinch a playoff berth. Though, the question with the Eagles is not whether they will make the postseason, but rather if they have what it takes to make a postseason run.

The two-game losing streak has created a buffer between the top two seeds — currently held by the Rams and Packers. If the Eagles want to host a divisional round home game (if they are able to get there), they need to resume winning ways sooner rather than later.

Luckily, three of the four remaining opponents after tonight's contest are out of the playoff picture entirely. The Eagles have two rematches of the 2025 NFC championship; with questions surrounding Jayden Daniels' health and whether he will play with the season essentially over for them, those games can turn into lay ups.
