The return of the iconic Kelly Green uniforms has become a celebrated tradition for the Philadelphia Eagles, connecting the franchise's legendary past with its current era of dominance. The vibrant green threads — synonymous with Eagles greats like Randall Cunningham and Reggie White — were officially revived as an alternate uniform for the 2023 season after a nearly three-decade absence, following the NFL's reversal of its single-helmet rule.

This season, the Eagles are bringing out their Kelly Green uniforms for all three NFC East matchups, starting today against the New York Giants. The throwback uniforms have brought more than just nostalgia; they have brought wins. Since their re-introduction, the Eagles are a perfect 4-0 when wearing the Kelly Green uniforms, a run that includes memorable victories over the Bills and Dolphins

Eagles record in Kelly Green jerseys

The Eagles are currently undefeated, holding a perfect 4-0 record when wearing their throwback uniforms since the color scheme's return in the 2023 season.

October 22, 2023: Eagles 31, Dolphins 17

The Kelly Green jerseys made their highly anticipated return on Sunday Night Football in 2023 for a prime-time clash against the high-flying Miami Dolphins. The game was billed as a showdown between two explosive offenses, but the Eagles' defense, wearing the vintage threads, shut down Miami's top-ranked scoring attack, holding them to just 10 offensive points. A key Darius Slay interception in the end zone and a relentless pass rush that netted four sacks defined the win.

November 26, 2023: Eagles 37, Bills 34 (OT)

The second Kelly Green game of 2023 resulted in an instant classic overtime thriller against the Buffalo Bills played in messy, rainy conditions. The Eagles trailed late but forced overtime after a clutch field goal. In the extra period, Jalen Hurts delivered the signature play of the game, scoring a walk-off touchdown run to secure a dramatic 37-34 victory in front of a raucous Lincoln Financial Field crowd.

November 3, 2024: Eagles 28, Jaguars 23

The 2024 season's Kelly Green debut was a hard-fought contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars. While Saquon Barkley provided one of the most viral highlights of the year — a spectacular reverse hurdle over a Jaguars defender that's now the Madden 26 cover —the game came down to the wire. The defense ultimately preserved the victory with a game-winning interception by linebacker Nakobe Dean on Trevor Lawrence, clinching a 28-23 win and extending the Kelly Green winning streak.

December 29, 2024: Eagles 41, Cowboys 7

The fourth Kelly Green game was a one-sided blowout against the Dallas Cowboys that clinched the NFC East division title for the Eagles. Philadelphia's defense generated five turnovers, including a pick-six by C.J. Gardner-Johnson to open the scoring. Backup quarterbacks Kenny Pickett and Tanner McKee combined for a strong offensive showing, leading the team to a dominant 41-7 thrashing of their fierce rivals. The victory marked the most decisive win in the uniform's current run and secured an undefeated Kelly Green record through two full seasons.

October 26, 2025: Eagles 38, Giants 20

The Eagles delivered their most dominant performance of the season in Week 8, avenging their previous loss to the Giants with a convincing 38-20 victory at Lincoln Financial Field.

Donning their lucky Kelly Green throwback uniforms for the first time this season, the Eagles were sparked immediately by a 65-yard touchdown run from  Barkley on the second play of the game. Quarterback Jalen Hurts had a season-high performance in efficiency, throwing four touchdown passes while completing 15 of 20 attempts for a 141.5 passer rating.

The Eagles' balanced offensive attack overwhelmed the Giants' defense, racking up over 430 total yards. Barkley finished the day with a season-high 150 rushing yards, and his backfield mate, Tank Bigsby, also eclipsed the 100-yard mark, giving Philadelphia two 100-yard rushers for the first time this season. Hurts distributed his touchdowns effectively, hitting Jahan Dotson and Barkley once, and finding tight end Dallas Goedert twice to celebrate National Tight Ends Day.

The victory not only halted the Giants' recent momentum but also pushed the Eagles' record to 6-2, maintaining their perfect 5-0 undefeated streak in the Kelly Green throwbacks since their return in 2023.

Eagles Kelly Green jersey history

The iconic Kelly Green uniform is deeply embedded in the history of the Eagles, serving as the franchise's signature primary color scheme for over six decades from 1935 until 1995.

This vibrant shade of green was worn by Hall of Famers like Chuck Bednarik and Steve Van Buren, and was the color of the Eagles' three pre-Super Bowl era NFL Championship teams (1948, 1949, and 1960). The jerseys also featured prominently during the beloved Randall Cunningham and Reggie White era in the late 1980s and early 1990s, a period that cemented the color in the collective memory of the fan base.

The Kelly Green era abruptly ended in 1996, shortly after Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie purchased the team. Lurie opted to modernize the franchise's visual identity, replacing Kelly Green with the current, darker Midnight Green color scheme. Despite the later success of the Midnight Green era, which included the franchise's first two Super Bowl victories, fan demand for the return of the classic Kelly Green jerseys never subsided. For years, the NFL's strict "one-helmet rule" prevented the team from wearing the true throwbacks, as the jerseys would have clashed ridiculously with the team's Midnight Green helmets.

The highly anticipated return finally became a reality after the NFL reversed the one-helmet rule ahead of the 2022 season. The Eagles then worked with Nike to design a throwback uniform and matching helmet that pays homage to the beloved 1990s Reggie White/Randall Cunningham look.

The jerseys made their official return in 2023 and, due to their overwhelming popularity and the team's undefeated record while wearing them, have been integrated into the schedule as an annual alternate uniform, allowing a new generation of fans to connect directly with the franchise's deepest historical roots.
