Entering Week 6, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions are heading in different directions as they prepare to face off.
The Chiefs enter the matchup at 2-3 and are fighting just to stay in the playoff picture. Kansas City lost last week to the Jacksonville Jaguars for its third loss of the season and is off to its worst start of the Patrick Mahomes era, with all three phases of the team struggling.
Mahomes himself has been solid, averaging over 250 yards per game while totaling eight touchdowns to two interceptions through five games. Around him, though, Travis Kelce has gotten off to a slow start, while injuries to the wide receiver room have already taken their toll.
Meanwhile, the Lions come into this game as one of the hottest teams in the NFL. After losing to the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, the Lions have won four straight games while scoring at least 34 points in each matchup, producing one of the best offenses in the league.
Quarterback Jared Goff has been sensational, leading the league with 12 passing touchdowns while throwing just two interceptions so far. In the running game, the dynamic duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have each totaled over 300 rushing yards this season while scoring four touchdowns apiece.
Detroit is currently in first place in the NFC North with a two-game lead over the Packers and the Minnesota Vikings. Kansas City, however, sits in third place in the AFC West, one game back of both the Los Angeles Chargers and the Denver Broncos for first place.
