The New York Jets had their Week 9 bye week followed by the NFL trade deadline, and Darren Mougey was very busy. He traded away Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, landing hauls for both.
Mougey's Gardner trade was the biggest deal, as he landed two first-round picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. In the wake of this deal, the jets received a lot of mixed reviews.
But one NFC executive, in a piece from Rich Cimini of ESPN, said that this trade was a "great deal" for the Jets. The reason why this executive feels this way is interesting, as he reveals he isn't a huge fan of Gardner's.
NFC exec reveals why the Jets got a 'great deal' in trading Sauce Gardner
"Never been a huge Sauce fan," an NFC executive said, "so that was a great deal to me that you just couldn't pass up."
New York landing two first-round picks and a young receiver is a very strong return for any player. But for Gardner, who's had his struggles at times the last two years, is a great trade in the eyes of this NFC executive.
Those two first-round picks will go a long way towards helping the Jets land their franchise quarterback in either of the next two NFL drafts.
Add on Mitchell, a young receiver who could emerge as a key piece of the Jets' offense alongside Garrett Wilson, and this trade looks to be a great one for the Jets.

What makes it so interesting, on top of the assets the Jets are landing, is that there's already a cornerback replacement on the roster. Rookie Azareye'h Thomson will take over Gardner's spot, while Brandon Stephens and Jarvis Brownlee Jr. Make up a strong CB room.
The two Jets trades on deadline day landed three first-round picks, a second-round pick, along with two younger, highly-drafted players who could turn their careers around in New York.
According to this NFC executive, this was a great trade for the Jets. Even if Gardner is a great cornerback once again, it's still a deal that could help the Jets land their franchise quarterback.
