Naming the worst team in the NFL isn't always cut and dry, but the New York Jets are easily taking that title in 2025.
New York is now 0-7 after another ugly loss in Week 7 and the team's $40 million quarterback, Justin Fields, was benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor.
The Jets' season is over, we know that, but it remains to be seen if this inept team will even be able to win a game. Unfortunately for the Jets' financial commitment to Fields, Taylor gives them the best chance to do that.
Amid this awful season, the Jets should absolutely be selling whatever they can to get more draft picks to aid in what will be a lengthy rebuild.
However, New York is currently stopping itself from being able to do that thanks to a "stubborn" approach with their asking prices, according to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, who lists running back Breece Hall and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson as potential trade candidates.
"You have to start in Gotham and the winless Jets, the NFL's only 0-7 team," Jones writes. "The league has been eyeing Gang Green's assets, but the Jets haven't really entertained anything regarding their players just yet. One source said the team has been "stubborn" with their asking prices. Logical thinking says that has to change soon. All eyes are on running back Breece Hall and edge Jermaine Johnson there."
As Jones points out, the Jets' high asking price is likely to change the closer we get to the deadline. After all, this is how teams operate when there is a lot of time between the current day and the trade deadline.
But this is the Jets we're talking about here, so do not rule out New York squandering an opportunity to gather more draft capital.
Hall is in the final year of his contract and is a prime candidate to be traded as a result. The Jets cannot pay Hall any semblance of a sizeable extension given the fact they have a boatload of fish to fry up and down the roster.
Johnson will also be an attractive trade asset at the deadline, if for no other reason than the fact that he's a promising young edge rusher. He is also under contract in 2026, and for a very reasonable price.
That said, his stock could be higher than it is now, as he has tallied just one sack and is in the first year back from a major injury. Johnson is also young enough (26) to factor into the team's long-term plans, so that's something to weigh.
The Jets should be selling off anything that isn't nailed down, which includes Hall. As for Johnson, the Jets need to get a great return or else they shouldn't cut him loose.
