The New York Jets will likely be looking to identify a new quarterback over the offseason. Regardless of who that quarterback is, they’ll want to surround that QB with as many weapons as possible – and they have the salary cap space to do so.
As a result, they were recently listed as a “dream” landing spot for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report.
Jets listed as a 'dream' landing spot for Brandon Aiyuk
Recent reporting suggests that Aiyuk and the Niners are headed for divorce over the offseason, despite the fact that he signed a four-year, $120 million deal with the team last offseason. This would leave the former Second-Team All Pro looking for a new NFL home. That’s where the Jets could come in.
"Pairing Aiyuk with [Garrett] Wilson would give said quarterback two talented pass-catchers who would help make adapting to the NFL a whole lot easier," Knox wrote. "For Aiyuk New York could provide the chance to be part of a historic turnaround in arguably the league's biggest market. The Jets aren't good right now, but they have the cap and draft capital to get good in a hurry."
It's tough to predict what the Jets are going to do over the offseason, but they should have the ability to add a guy like Aiyuk, should he indeed become available. If that would want to is another question.
Aiyuk posted consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023, but he was limited to just seven games last season after suffering a devastating knee injury that has also sidelined him for the entirety of the current campaign. Teams might be hesitant to make a big invest in a player fresh off of such a serious injury, which is understandable.
This is all just hypothetical until Aiyuk actually becomes available, anyway. But hey, it's fun to talk about.
