Justin Fields benched: Why Jets made switch to Tyrod Taylor in Week 7 image

The New York Jets have made a quarterback switch in the Week 7 game against the Carolina Panthers, going from Justin Fields to Tyrod Taylor.

The Jets made the change to begin the second half. Fields was dealing with an injury briefly in the first half but ultimately re-entered the game, so this does appear to be the Jets benching Fields for Taylor.

This is a brutal turn of events for the Jets, who inked Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal in free agency this offseason. The deal included $30 million guaranteed.

Why Jets benched Justin Fields

After having a great Week 1, things have gotten progressively worse for Fields, who had one of the worst offensive showings in NFL history in Week 6 in London.

Then, in Week 7 versus the Panthers, it was more bad play from Fields, who had only completed six of 12 passes for 46 scoreless yards before his exit. He carried the rock four times for another 22 yards.

At this point, the move is understandable.

Fields is just not good and based on what we've seen from both Fields and Taylor in their respective careers, Taylor gives the Jets a better chance to win, something head coach Aaron Glenn desperately needs right now.

The Jets entered the week 0-6 and while a rough year was expected for Glenn and Co., it has been even worse than expected. Now, Glenn will hope Taylor can provide a spark moving forward.
