Jets' UDFA rookie quarterback Brady Cook given 'great challenge' in first NFL action image

The New York Jets were down to their last quarterback on Sunday during their 34-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Veteran Tyrod Taylor lasted only six plays before exiting the game with a groin injury, and with Justin Fields inactive due to his knee, undrafted free-agent rookie quarterback Brady Cook was thrust into the game.

Cook looked exactly how an undrafted rookie would without first-team practice reps in his first-ever taste of NFL action, but that's not necessarily his fault.

After the loss, Cook opened up about his first experience in pro football.

"It was definitely a challenge, but a great challenge. One that comes with the job of being the backup quarterback. I felt ready to play today, and obviously I didn’t do enough to get a win," Cook told reporters.

"Coming in at half, talking it over, just taking a deep breath, and then coming back out there, I definitely did (settle down). I think you definitely saw flashes there in the fourth quarter of us moving the ball. So, we need more of it."

The Missouri product completed 14 of 30 pass attempts for 163 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions.

It was a tough spot for any rookie quarterback, let alone one that wasn't even drafted.

New York was just outclassed against their division rival on Sunday, and it was fairly obvious from the jump.

With a matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on deck, the Jets may be forced to turn to Cook once again, with Taylor and Fields both still dealing with nagging injuries.
