The New York Jets are making yet another move at the quarterback position. Per Jordan Schultz, the Jets are signing former Detroit Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker.
"The Jets are signing former Lions QB Hendon Hooker to their practice squad," Schultz reports on X. "He worked out for them this morning. He reunites with Aaron Glenn and Tanner Engstrand."
Hooker was a highly-regarded prospect coming out of Tennessee in the 2023 NFL Draft. He was drafted in the third round by the Lions due to suffering an injury in his final season with the Volunteers. He was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022, throwing 27 touchdowns to just two interceptions while leading the nation in air yards per attempt and passer rating.
This comes after the Jets have started three quarterbacks in 2025. Justin Fields began the season as the starter, but struggled to put together quality performances on a consistent basis. After a dynamic Week 1 that saw him put up three total touchdowns and a 119.1 passer rating, Fields put up a passer rating under 11 in three of his next five games. Tyrod Taylor appeared in six games and won just one start. The Jets then turned to rookie Brady Cook, who has thrown one touchdown to five interceptions.
