The New York Jets have been a struggle this season, sitting at 3-12 with two weeks to go. One of the main reasons for the issues this season has been the struggles of the quarterbacks.

Justin Fields hasn't been great when he was playing, Tyrod Taylor wasn't much more than a backup, and Brady Cook, the undrafted rookie free agent, has also struggled greatly.

But the biggest whiff has been Fields, thanks to his $40 million price tag. And now, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Jets have announced that Fields is going on injured reserve, ending his 2025 season.

"Jets now are placing QB Justin Fields on season-ending injured reserve," Schefter reported on Tuesday afternoon.

This announcement on the Jets $40 million quarterback is not a completely unexpected one, but it does officially end the season of Fields.

His first year with the Jets didn't go to plan, as he struggled mightily in his starts this season. While he made nine starts in 2025 and threw just one interception, he also had just seven touchdown passes, 1,259 passing yards, and multiple down weeks.

Four times this season, Fields finished the game with under 60 passing yards. In Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills, he threw for 27 before getting hurt. But his next three low-passing performances were more brutal.

Against the Denver Broncos overseas, Fields had 45 passing yards on 17 attempts. With 55 yards lost on sacks that game, Fields had a net-negative passing yardage total.

The next week, Fields threw for 46 yards on 12 attempts against the Carolina Panthers in another rough loss. He rattled off a win with 244 passing yards against the Cincinnati Bengals, and then had a 54-yard passing day against the Cleveland Browns in a win.

But, he lasted just one more game before Aaron Glenn benched him, and moved on to Tyrod Taylor. He's since dealt with an injury, and with his knee injury still impacting him, Fields is now on injured reserve.

With two weeks left, there's no time for Fields to return this season. This roster move from the Jets officially ends Fields' 2025 season, and cements his $40 million contract as one of the biggest whiffs of the offseason.
