The New York Jets are "progressing" towards a deal with former Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich for a senior role on their offensive staff, according to SNY's Jets insider Connor Hughes.
Despite the numerous staff changes made by New York recently, incumbent offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand is staying on in his role, but head coach Aaron Glenn wants to bring in an experienced playcaller.
Enter Reich, who won the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 as the offensive coordinator under Doug Pederson.
'Things are progressing' between the Jets and Frank Reich per Connor Hughes
Reich would be a significant get for Glenn and his staff, as there have been concerns surrounding the attractiveness of New York's assistant coaching gigs.
His veteran offensive acumen could be a massive help in improving one of the league's worst offenses in 2025.
"The Jets do not plan on firing Tanner Engstrand, but his role with team will change. Sources close to Engstrand told @snytv he does not expect to call plays in 2026, although he might maintain the 'OC' title. Sources expect Reich to take over as play caller," wrote Hughes.
Despite the recent failures of his head coaching stints, Reich saw offensive success early in his Colts tenure, especially with Andrew Luck at the helm.
And how could anyone forget about how Reich was able to coach up Nick Foles in the Eagles' Super Bowl run in 2017?
The former NFL quarterback has a solid resume, and after taking a year off to help Stanford in the collegiate ranks, Reich may be just the guy the Jets need to help develop a young quarterback.
