The New York Jets have had yet another forgettable season. At 3-11, the first year of the Aaron Glenn era is nearing a merciful end with just three games remaining. Once the season does conclude for the Jets, the next question becomes what do they do at the quarterback position?
It's quite evident that Justin Fields won't be the starter in 2026 after signing a two-year deal with the Jets this past March. He was benched for Tyrod Taylor after a series of rough performances, and the Jets have even turned to rookie Brady Cook, who has not looked like the future of anything. With that in mind, there aren't a large abundance of high-level quarterbacks set to be free agents, but they could trade for a quarterback if they wanted to go that route. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN even tabbed the Jets as a landing spot for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
"Does a safe landing spot exist for Murray? Working with, say, Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota would be ideal, but J.J. McCarthy has shown improvement over the past two weeks," Fowler writes. "The Raiders and Jets are among teams which appear to be in transition at quarterback. Whether a team takes a chance on Murray's maligned career -- and gives up draft capital and financial resources to do it -- remains to be seen."
Many Jets fans are hoping that New York will draft a quarterback, which does ultimately feel like what will happen, especially with their draft position. The Jets currently hold the No. 5 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and are currently behind two teams who almost certainly won't be taking a quarterback in the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans.
The Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders are the other two teams who make out the top five, and all three quarterback-needy teams will have their eyes on Indiana quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza.
