Jets lose to Dolphins, extend longest active playoff draught in major U.S. sports image

The New York Jets have been one of the teams that have struggled to find a franchise quarterback over the last decade or so. While they'd had a couple players come through and play well at times, the last 15 years have been a struggle.

Their Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins was emblematic of that problem. Tyrod Taylor went down with an injury, and Brady Cook had to come in. Justin Fields was a miss, and with the 34-10 loss, the Jets have once again missed the playoffs.

Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team highlighted just how rough things have been for the Jets amid this loss and elimination from playoff contention. It's the 15th straight year without playoff football for the Jets, and it remains the longest drought across all four major U.S. Sports leagues.

Jets miss playoffs, extend drought to 15th season

Meirov mentioned that "The Jets will officially miss the playoffs for a 15th straight year, extending the longest active drought in all four major U.S. Sports."

What this means is that no other team across the National Football League, Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, and the National Hockey League has missed the playoffs for as long as the Jets have.

For the last 15 seasons, dating back to 2010, the Jets have continued to miss the playoffs.  Every other team in the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL has made the playoffs in the years since.

While there are some long draughts in other leagues, none are as long as the Jets' playoff draught. It's not a surprise coming into this season in a rebuild year under Aaron Glenn, but it's disappointing nonetheless.

Glenn and the Jets will look to snap this draught next season, likely with a new quarterback. But, at least for another year, the Jets' playoff drought will remain the longest in major U.S. Sports history.
