Justin Fields is the New York Jets' new starting quarterback.

Right now, though, things aren't looking particularly encouraging.

Fields has had three rough days in a row at practice. Thanks to SNY's Connor Hughes, we have some stats.

Over that three-practice span, Fields is 15-for-43 passing in full-team work. That's 34 percent.

He has thrown two interceptions among that, as well.

Both of the picks came on Tuesday, Hughes reported. He added that Fields didn't complete a pass beyond five air yards and also took three sacks. And Fields added an interception on 7-on-7.

This certainly isn't ideal for the Jets. They weren't necessarily expecting Fields to be their long-term answer at the position, but he's the only guy they've got in the short term unless they want to pull a total 180 and pivot to Tyrod Taylor.

That isn't likely to happen, so this is just something Fields has to figure out.

There are a couple reasons to not ring the alarm bells too loudly yet. The first is that, in the first week of August, defenses are usually ahead of offenses at training camp.

The second is that so much of what Fields does is defined by his legs. If he is forced to sit in the pocket and throw, like is often the case at camp, he can't show off his full skillset.

When the threat of the run is more active for Fields, it makes defenses play him differently, and it also allows him to get out of trouble more readily.

Of course, it'd always be good to complete more than 34% of passes. But in this context, there's still time for things to get better for Fields and the Jets.
