The New York Jets are in the middle of a reset year under Aaron Glenn. But this season has still been a disaster. Nothing has described things better than how December has gone.
This month, the Jets are 0-4, have lost by an average of 26.75 points per game, and have yet to get an interception. But the worst of it came from a game they didn't participate in.
As Field Yates of ESPN notes, following the Atlanta Falcons' upset win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football, the Jets got some bad news on their chances for the number 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Jets get final update on hunt for No. 1 overall pick in NFL Draft
"With the Falcons' win tonight, the Jets no longer have a shot at the #1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft," Yates notes. "It will belong to either the Raiders or the Giants, with Las Vegas having a strong inside track to pick 1."
The Falcons' win means the Jets cannot land the number 1 overall pick, and in turn, it will go to one of the Las Vegas Raiders or the New York Giants.
Ironically, this isn't the only time the Falcons have been a negative for the Jets' odds of landing the top pick in the draft.
A few weeks ago, right before December began, the Jets beat the Falcons, in what's now looking like the deciding game for the Jets missing out on the top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
More: Jets expected to make 'significant' roster moves in offseason on defense
With Fernando Mendoza being the clear top quarterback, and the Raiders potentially being in the market for a QB, the Jets might've just lost out on their best quarterback option this upcoming offseason.
A big question for the Jets will be who they bring in for the 2026 season. None of Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and Brady Cook can be the starter next season.
Whether it's a rookie, a free agent, or a trade pickup, the Jets need to find a new QB. Ideally, it would've been Mendoza atop the NFL Draft, but thanks to the Falcons, those hopes are now dashed.
