The New York Jets desperately needed to make a change at the quarterback position and they are finally doing it.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed on Wednesday that the team will indeed start Tyrod Taylor over Justin Fields in Week 12 against the Baltimore Ravens.

Why did Glenn make the decision this week?

He gave a very simple, yet standoffish kind of answer:

"Because I wanted to," Glenn said, per ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Fair enough.

Glenn has had a contentious relationship with the New York media in his first season, so no surprise he answered it that way.

The real reason why this is happening is because Fields just wasn't good, plain and simple, and the Jets are waving the white flag on their huge offseason mistake.

With Fields under center, the Jets are sporting the worst passing attack in the NFL, and by a wide margin.

New York is averaging 139.9 passing yards per game. The next-closest team is the Cleveland Browns with 159.4.

Bear in mind, the Browns at least have an excuse because they've been starting a rookie for several weeks now.

With Fields going to the bench, there is obviously a question about his standing with the team beyond this season.

The Jets could cut Fields loose, which will incur a dead-cap charge no matter if they utilize a pre- or post-June 1 designation.

The former would incur a dead-cap hit of $22 million and a savings of $1 million, while the latter would result in a $13 million dead-cap hit and a savings of $10 million, per Over the Cap.

At this point, it would be fairly surprising if Fields remains in New York beyond this season.
