The New York Jets are reportedly releasing wide receiver Allen Lazard and many are wondering why it didn't happen sooner.

Lazard's 2025 campaign was a massive disappointment and it was quite clear that the Jets just didn't have him in their plans, despite his $44 million contract that turned out to be a massive mistake on New York's part.

Lazard was a healthy scratch multiple times in 2025 and when he did play, he didn't do much with just 10 catches for 70 yards and one touchdown in 10 games. Lazard saw just 250 snaps in total in those contests.

In the wake of his release, SNY's Connor Hughes shed light on some of the issues the team had with Lazard.

Hughes reports that Lazard had questionable practice habits with the Jets and he was not popular with his teammates after Aaron Rodgers came to New York.

Hughes says he's "stunned" Lazard lasted as long as he did with the Jets.

"Lazard did not perform well on the field, had questionable practice habits, and rubbed some teammates the wrong way with way he acted once Aaron Rodgers arrived. Stunned he was with team this long," Hughes reported.

While Lazard figures to draw interest from wide receiver-needy teams, this report from Hughes might give them pause.

One team that should have interest in Lazard is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have his old buddy, Rodgers, under center.

Granted, the details of Lazard's issues with the Jets are no doubt troubling, but it's possible the Steelers won't be worried about that with Rodgers there.

Lazard will first go to waivers, where team will have an opportunity to claim him. If he clears, the now-former Jets wideout will be free to sign with any team.
