Cardinals, Raiders request to interview former Jets offensive coordinator for head coach position image

The Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders are looking to interview a former New York Jets assistant coach for their vacant head coaching positions, according to ESPN's Peter Schrager.

"Rams OC Mike LaFleur has been asked to interview, and will this week, for the HC positions in Las Vegas and Arizona, per ESPN’s @PSchrags," wrote Adam Schefter in a post on X.

The current Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the Jets, serving as the offensive coordinator under former head coach Robert Saleh.

Cardinals, Raiders request HC interview with Mike LeFleur

LeFleur, the brother of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LeFleur, got a raw deal as offensive coordinator of the Jets.

After being saddled with No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson, LeFleur did his best with New York's offense, coordinating some impressive performances with Mike White and Josh Johnson under center.

But when Wilson flamed out, someone had to fall on the sword, and LeFleur was fired after the 2022 season, and the decision may have come from the top.

"A week ago, Saleh publicly advocated for Mike LaFleur, fueling speculation that owner Woody Johnson was pressuring to make a change," reported ESPN's Rich Cimini.

"The Jets claimed that wasn't the case, with general manager Joe Douglas saying Monday that Saleh has the final say on coaching-staff decisions."

Since departing the Jets, LeFleur built himself up as the offensive coordinator for the Rams, helping guide the Los Angeles offense to success with the likes of head coach Sean McVay and quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Now, he'll get some looks as a potential head coach.
