What does one even say about a team like the 2025 New York Jets? No one seriously expected the Jets to end their 14-year playoff drought, but they shouldn’t be this bad. They’re 0-5, the offense is struggling, and the defense, which was supposed to be a strength, has officially become the first team in NFL history to start a season 0-5 without a single takeaway.

The Jets 37-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, which was not nearly as close as the score indicates, is just the rotten cherry on top of this awful sundae. Nothing went right, nor should it have considering how disinterested the Jets looked for long stretches of this matchup. Facing a defense that has given up 37 points per game over the last three weeks, the Jets managed only a pair of field goals before a couple of garbage time touchdowns late in the 4th quarter.
Let’s just get to the biggest losers from this game and put this week in the rearview mirror.
The fans
This franchise owes a massive apology to the Gang Green faithful. This is a fanbase that has put up with more misery than almost any other team in the NFL, yet they still managed to find and hang on to a glimmer of hope that this 2025 season would at least be entertaining, a step in the right direction.
Instead, the Jets have taken several steps back, its strengths have become weaknesses, and I struggle to find a single thing this team does well. But hey, at least they had a great practice this week.

Aaron Glenn
As I said in my keys to victory piece on Saturday, thus far the Jets have exhibited several signs of a poorly coached team and it’s high-time that Glenn takes accountability for that. Yes, he’s a rookie head coach trying to rebuild a culture of losers, but that’s no excuse for an 0-5 start with only two games being somewhat competitive. At some point we have to call a duck a duck and demand more from the head coach.
No head coach in franchise history had gone 0-5 in their first season before today, surpassing even Adam Gase's ineptitude. Glenn has officially made Jets history for incompetence and if he doesn’t turn things around soon, Glenn’s tenure in New York could be very short indeed.
The offensive line
Justin Fields was not good, but his protection did him absolutely no favors. The Cowboys defense had served as a get-right game for every other offense on their schedule thus far, but the Jets’ O-line made Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus look like Vic Fangio as Fields was under constant assault even with a simple 4-man rush.
Defense
The identity of this team going into 2025 was supposed to be an old-school, smashmouth team that runs the ball down your throat and punches you in the face on defense. In reality, the offense can't run the ball because of how quickly they fall behind and the defense is allowing over 30 points per game.
There’s no excuse for a defense with as much firepower as the Jets to look this bad, period. I don’t know what it will take for this unit to play up to their potential, but I do know that they simply cannot continue to be so completely incompetent.
