New York Jets fans are frustrated, and understandably so. The Jets haven’t qualified for postseason play since 2010, marking the longest active drought in the NFL, and they’ve already been eliminated from playoff contention this season.
Despite the highly hyped offseason addition of head coach Aaron Glenn, the Jets have won just three of their 15 games so far this season and they sit dead last in the AFC East, again. They would need to win their final two games just to match their 5-12 record from last season. So, patience is running thin in New York.
Aaron Glenn asks for patience from New York Jets fans
Sensing the growing frustration, Glenn sent a message to Jets fans, promising that a plan is in place and urging patience.
"For the fans, listen, it's going to be a tough road," Glenn said. "We knew that, but, man, the thing is, we know exactly what we're doing. We have a plan. Just don't let go of the rope, I would say that.
"From Day 1, we've been trying to set the foundation of what we want this team to be," he added. "A lot of that is from an in-house perspective, for the most part."
It’s tough to ask for more patience from a fan base that hasn’t seen a playoff game in a decade-and-a-half. But at the same time, a coach can’t be expected to come in and completely change a losing culture in one season. For that process, patience is indeed required. For that reason, it seems likely that Glenn will get another season, at least.
New York’s roster will need major upgrades over the offseason on both sides of the ball. They obviously need to figure something out at quarterback, as has been the case for a while now, but their issues go beyond that. The Jets’ defense recently made history by becoming the first team ever to go 15 straight games without an interception. So, general manager Darren Mougey has his work cut out for him.
Meanwhile, Glenn hopes to give Jets fans something to smile about heading into the offseason when the team hosts the New England Patriots in Week 17 in their final home game of the season.
“We know it's our last home game. We look forward to it,” Glenn said. “… We know it's a really, really good opponent so there's nothing better than us going out there and probably spoiling what they're trying to accomplish as a team and making sure our last game is a game our fans can remember."
