The New York Jets suffered their fourth double-digit loss to an AFC East opponent on Sunday, getting run off the field 42-10 by the division-leading New England Patriots.

After the defeat, and the final game of the 2025 season at MetLife Stadium for the Jets, head coach Aaron Glenn questioned his players' effort in the blowout loss, saying, "I'm upset with the effort, but I'm also upset with us as coaches too, though. And again, it's gonna start with me of getting these guys ready to play against a hell of a team for our last home game, right, this season."

But after watching the tape, Glenn changed his tune on Monday morning, telling reporters he was mistaken in his comments after the game.

Aaron Glenn says effort was not the issue against Patriots

At his Monday press conference, Glenn wanted to take some of the heat off his players and took more accountability for the demoralizing defeat.

"Effort was not the issue with that game. I thought our guys played all the way to the very end," Glenn told reporters via The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt.

"They did some things schematically that was challenging that we really have to take a look at."

It also didn't help that New York is playing with an undrafted free agent roster, particularly on defense. The secondary is filled with first-year players signed directly out of college.

But regardless, blowouts are going to cause mass hysteria, especially when it's your fourth straight loss by 20 points or more.

The Jets will face their final opponent, the Buffalo Bills, next Sunday in the final regular-season game at Highmark Stadium, and more likely than not, New York will fare just as well as they did against the Patriots this past weekend.
