The New York Giants have made the move fans have been yearning for, with the team FINALLY firing head coach Brian Daboll.

The Giants made the move on Monday, according to several reports, and Big Blue will now hand the reins to offensive coordinator Mike Kafka for the rest of the campaign before going back to the drawing board for a head coach in 2026.

To say this is long overdue is an understatement. Daboll had countless gaffes and the Giants have lost countless games (and in ugly fashion, too) in recent years and there was no justification for Daboll keeping his job as long as he has.

With Daboll getting the boot, that left many fans wondering if general manager Joe Schoen is next. Here's what we know about that.

Will Giants fire Joe Schoen next?

UPDATE: Well we have our answer on Schoen.

After the article was initially published, the Giants put out a statement on the firing of Daboll, and in it they announced that Schoen would remain in his job and will lead the search for the team's next head coach.

"Joe Schoen remains in his position as general manager and will lead the search for a new head coach," the team said on its official website.

END OF UPDATE

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, there are currently no plans to fire Schoen or make any other changes to the coaching staff.

"No other staff changes are expected at this time in New York, sources say. GM Joe Schoen and DC Shane Bowen will stay in their current roles for now, while Mike Kafka replaces Brian Daboll," Russini reported.

In what is good news for Schoen chances of staying, SNY's Connor Hughes reports that the feeling inside the building is that the talent doesn't match the results the Giants have seen.

"The feeling internally, I’m told, is that the Giants believe the talent is better than the results have shown — evident by four loses despite holding 10-point leads," he wrote. "That, plus the Jaxson Dart injury, called forth the change. Agree or disagree, that’s how they currently view the situation."

Hughes went on to add that he doesn't believe Schoen's seat is that hot and the Giants still view Schoen "in high regard."

"I do not get the sense that Joe Schoen’s seat is particularly hot. That, obviously, can change if this thing goes completely off the rails," Hughes said. "Internally, Giants still view GM in high regard."

Should Giants fire Joe Schoen?

Hell yes.

Daboll shoulders a ton of blame for the Giants' struggles in recent years, but so does Schoen, who was responsible for hiring the now-former Giants head coach.

Not only that, Schoen has done an awful job building the roster and it's fair to argue that, outside of having Jaxson Dart, New York's roster is in a worse spot than it was when Schoen got here.

If he does keep his job, it'll be because he drafted Dart and nothing else.

But four years is more than enough time to show significant progress and Schoen has failed miserably at doing that and there is nothing to suggest he's going to be able to turn things around, something he has already failed at doing.

If it isn't right now, Schoen should absolutely get the boot at the end of the season. The Giants simply cannot put themselves in a position to let Schoen pick the next head coach, only to get fired next year, which would leave the team with a head coach-general manager pairing that did not come in together.
