The Miami Dolphins have reportedly fired head coach Mike McDaniel and that might be bad news for the New York Giants.

Before the Dolphins even fired McDaniel, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported that Miami would be the Giants' top competition for former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh if the job became available.

"The spot to watch as top competition now for John Harbaugh would be Miami," Raanan reported.

Of course, the Giants have been considered at or near the top of Harbaugh's list of preferred landing spots, and Harbaugh is rumored to be very interested in the Giants.

But all of those rumors came before there was a vacancy in Miami and now one has to wonder if things will change.

On the surface, the Giants are the no-brainer better option thanks to the presence of Jaxson Dart and other promising young pieces on both offense and defense. The Giants also have a better salary cap situation.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins have to completely rebuild from the ground up, especially at quarterback, where the team could part ways with Tua Tagovailoa. Even if Tua stays, he isn't the long-term answer in Miami.

What Miami does have working for it is the ability for Harbaugh to work with a general manager he knows, whereas the Giants already have a GM in place with Joe Schoen.

The Dolphins haven't hired anyone yet, but among the team's finalists for the job is Los Angeles Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander, who previously worked with Harbaugh during his stint in Baltimore.

Another positive for Miami is Harbaugh would get a blank slate, which may be appealing to him rather than taking on a core in New York that's already in place.
