New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson wasn't exactly a highly sought-after free agent this offseason, but he likely had more suitors than just Big Blue. Wilson signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal with New York, and despite the presence of first-round pick Jaxson Dart, is expected to begin the 2025 season as the unquestioned starter.
Wilson, 36, is entering the twilight of his NFL career, which made the decision to join the rebuilding Giants a bit of a surprise.
But during a recent appearance on Carmelo Anthony's podcast, Wilson revealed one of the main reasons he signed with New York instead of a team that might be more equipped to win now, and that reason is a good one: wide receiver Malik Nabers.
Wilson praised Nabers as one of the NFL's superstar receivers.

“I just turned on the film and watched this guy Malik Nabers,” Wilson said. “This dude is a superstar. I saw him, watching the film before I tried to make a decision and trying to get a clear understanding of who the players are, this and that. Obviously, you see the highlights and everything else. But when you watch every single catch and every single rep and every play, you get to see the kind of player he is. He’s dynamic. He touches that football, he’s gone.”
Wilson isn't wrong.

Nabers has a chance to ascend into the upper class of wideouts in 2025 after a historic rookie season last year. Nabers set the New York Giants' single-season receptions record with 109 in just 15 games. He finished with 1,204 yards and seven scores. His rookie-year production is even more remarkable considering the embarrassing QB play he had to suffer through.
Nabers is a similar talent to superstar receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, both of whom are also former LSU Tigers. His production in 2025 could be scary good thanks to Wilson and the upgrade he provides at quarterback.
Russell Wilson and Malik Nabers have a chance to form the Giants' most explosive quarterback-wide receiver tandem since Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr., which has sparked more buzz and excitement around New York's offense than there has been in quite some time.
