The New York Giants are expected to put together an official search for a coach once the 2025 NFL season ends.

Jaxson Dart will undoubtedly be in mind as the Giants look for their next leader.

The rookie quarterback didn’t have much time to work with Brian Daboll, who famously had a hand in helping develop the MVP-caliber quarterback, Josh Allen.

New York let the now-former head coach go as they struggled to compete in an underwhelming NFC East.

A win on Sunday will finish the Giants at 4-13 on the year. A loss would keep them in sole possession of last place in the East with a 3-14 record, trailing the 4-12 Washington Commanders.

For Dart, it was an unfortunate first season in the NFL, but the Giants have to be optimistic about him having a bright future. It’s their responsibility to surround him with the right pieces on the field and the sidelines. Perhaps the Giants attempt to form a reunion for Dart to keep him comfortable.

An Old Friend In Mind?

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported on Sunday that Charlie Weis Jr. Has come up as a possibility to work with Dart, depending on where the Giants’ head coach search goes.

SI’s Albert Breer offered some additional details on the potential pairing: “The Weis family has a long-standing connections to the Maras. If, say, Jeff Hafley or Chris Shula is the head coach, bringing in a former HC to be DC, and then having Weis there (with maybe a senior offensive assistant working with him) would be intriguing.”

Weis has had a role in NCAA organizations since 2011. The 32-year-old started at Florida, before making his way through Kansas, Alabama, Florida Atlantic, South Florida, Ole Miss, and now LSU.

When at Ole Miss, Weis worked directly with Dart as his quarterback coach. During Dart’s final season with the Rebels, the quarterback threw for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He rushed for 495 yards and three touchdowns. Ole Miss went 10-3.

With the Giants this season, Dart has appeared in 13 games, leading up to the final week, where he landed his 12th start. The rookie completed 63 percent of his passes, tossing for over 2,000 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also rushed 81 times for 455 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Giants still have a lot of work to do in figuring out their next move with the coaching staff. Finding a coach that Dart can trust will be a key factor.

For the time being, Weis will wrap up his tenure at Ole Miss before joining Lane Kiffin at LSU.
