The New York Giants didn't have an inspiring Week 1 performance in their 21-6 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon at Northwest Stadium.

Russell Wilson completed 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards and no touchdowns. The lackluster offense from Wilson and Co. now has the football media calling for the Giants to consider starting rookie Jaxson Dart.

Over the offseason, the Giants invested a first-round pick on Dart, and he's obviously the signal caller that the New York front office is betting on to be the face of the franchise. Nonetheless, the question is, when will Dart take over the starting job?

For NFL Network analyst Maurice Jones-Drew, the time is now to hand the keys over to Dart.

"After watching [on Sunday], it's time to put the young guy in," Jones-Drew said on NFL Network. "It doesn't matter when you put him in. If it's two weeks from now, if it's two days from now, if it's two hours from now, he's going to still be the same. Play the young guy.

"There's a reason you drafted him and you had to give him all those preseason reps. I can't see that anymore. I don't want to watch that anymore. I'm not even a Giants fan."

Moreover, Jones-Drew believes that Wilson's NFL career is winding down, and the player can no longer do what made him successful during his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks.

"Russell Wilson, he's not the same mobile guy he was in Seattle," Jones-Drew added. "We saw what he did in Pittsburgh, and it's not him. Father time gets us all. We can't play the same way we used to. Now, the moon ball is still there, but it's time to let the young guy go in and make some plays."

While Giants may want to see Dart already, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that head coach Brian Daboll told reporters that the team intends to start Russell Wilson on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
