It's not the kind of history a team wants to make.
But the New York Giants have a chance to make some eliminated-from-the-playoffs history in Week 12 following the release of the NFL's elimination scenarios.
The Giants are the only team that can be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention this week.
Their elimination scenario requires one of these three sets of outcomes:
- Giants loss and Cowboys win
- Giants loss and Vikings win
- Giants loss and Seahawks wni or tie

According to the NFL's Joe Ferreira, the Giants haven't been eliminated earlier than this since 1976.
That year, the Giants were officially out when they reached 0-8 in a 14-week season.
A team hasn't been eliminated this early in the season since 2020, when the Jets were knocked out officially in Week 11 in a 17-week season.

It won't be an easy task for the Giants. They play at the powerful Detroit Lions.
The Giants are just 2-9, and it's not even clear whether Jaxson Dart will be back at QB or if it'll still be the Jameis Winston experience.
New York is already down to interim coach Mike Kafka from the fired Brian Daboll. The rest of this season is just about figuring out what will matter for next year.
