TL;DR

  • Jaxon Dart practiced fully, potentially starting Monday Night Football for the Giants against the Patriots.
  • Dart was a Rookie of the Year contender before a concussion sidelined him.
  • Brian Daboll was dismissed after the Giants lost a substantial lead against the Chicago Bears.
  • Dart previously secured wins against the Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles.

The New York Giants have been close to securing multiple additional victories in 2025 beyond their current two. They maintained a substantial lead over the Detroit Lions during Week 12, and almost achieved a surprise win against the Green Bay Packers the week before.

Jameis Winston started at quarterback for both of those games, but that might not happen Monday night when the Giants play the New England Patriots. According to Adam Schefter, Jaxson Dart practiced fully on Wednesday, suggesting the Giants are preparing for Dart to be under center.

"Giants said QB Jaxon Dart was a full participant in today’s practice, giving him a chance to make his first start on Monday Night Football vs. The Patriots," Schefter reports.

Dart sustained a concussion during the Giants' defeat to the Chicago Bears, a loss that ultimately sealed Brian Daboll's fate, as he was dismissed following another blown fourth-quarter advantage.

Dart had established himself as a leading Rookie of the Year contender within his initial month as the starting quarterback. He secured his inaugural victory in his first start against the Los Angeles Chargers, and subsequently triumphed over the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. . At the point of that second win, the Giants' record stood at 2-4. While this record might not seem particularly impressive, Dart, alongside fellow rookie Cam Skattebo, offered a glimmer of hope to fans who had been without it for a considerable period.
