The New York Giants will not have quarterback Jaxson Dart on the field for Week 12.
According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, interim head coach Mike Kafka revealed that Dart is still in the concussion protocol and will not play on Sunday.
"Jaxson Dart has not yet cleared the concussion protocol, per coach Mike Kafka. He will not play Sunday vs. Lions," Raanan reported.
This means we'll get another week of Jameis Winston, who completed 19-of-29 passes for 201 yards and one pick in Week 11.
Earlier in the week, it appeared that Dart was moving in the direction of returning to the lineup after a one-game absence.
Dart turned in a limited practice on Wednesday, which was the reason for hope. But the rookie was then limited on Thursday, which pumped the brakes on the optimism surrounding his status.
"Kafka said this is based on Dart’s lack of progress in the concussion is the reason. This isn’t about holding him out based on being extra cautious," The Athletic's Dan Duggan reported.
This obviously takes a ton of juice out of Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, but it's more important that the Giants don't rush Dart back out on the field.
After all, the season is already over and getting Dart back next week as opposed to this week doesn't make a difference.
Assuming Dart returns in Week 13, he'll have five more games to continue his development before the Giants turn their attention to 2026.
