TL;DR

  • Wan'Dale Robinson set a personal best with 156 yards and nine receptions.
  • Robinson became the first Giants receiver since Hakeem Nicks in 2011 to surpass 100 yards in the first quarter.
  • His performance in a contract year could challenge the upper bounds of the slot receiver market.
  • Robinson is a dynamic playmaker who will attract attention from multiple teams.

Wan'Dale Robinson played the game of his life on Sunday.

While not quite enough for the New York Giants to secure a thrilling victory, it was more than sufficient to etch their name in franchise history.

Robinson achieved a personal best of 156 yards from nine receptions. He found the end zone with a long pass following a double-pass play during the Giants' initial possession.

Jameis Winston looked Robinson's way early and often.

Emphasis on early, too. Robinson surpassed 100 receiving yards in the first quarter.

According to ESPN, he's the first Giants receiver to surpass 100 yards in the first quarter since Hakeem Nicks achieved this in 2011.

Nicks, when he was at his best, was a massive, skilled receiver. Robinson, however, is quite different; he's a smaller, faster, and more agile player. Despite their differences, both are capable of making significant plays.

What Robinson is accomplishing is especially noteworthy given the stage of his career. He's currently in a contract year.

While slot receivers typically earn less than their outside counterparts, this dynamic began to shift after the Bills secured Khalil Shakir with a four-year, $53 million deal during the previous offseason.

If Robinson continues his current performance level, he might be able to challenge the upper bounds of the slot market as well.

The Giants may want to keep him around going forward to continue to be a good target for Jaxson Dart. But Robinson surely will get attention from elsewhere, too, because he's clearly a big-time playmaker.
