The New York Giants finally fired Brian Daboll on Monday. The news came after a fourth blown double-digit lead turned into yet another loss on Sunday at Soldier Field, with the Chicago Bears picking up a stunning 24-20 win. Undoubtedly, the straw that broke the camel’s back was Jaxson Dart’s concussion.
Running Dart into the ground is unacceptable. The 2025 first-round draft pick is the Giants’ future meal ticket. John Mara and Co. Did what needed to be done by getting rid of the 50-year-old head coach.
They might not be done, either.
In the aftermath of Daboll’s departure, several media figures close to the program suggested firing general manager Joe Schoen as well. The Athletic’s Dan Duggan called Daboll’s firing “long overdue” but pushed for Schoen to be next.
“This was inevitable, but I thought they might wait until the end of the season. Feels like the Dart injury was the final straw,” Duggan prefaced before saying, “Make no mistake: This is a half measure, and the focus needs to shift to GM Joe Schoen now.”
The New York Daily News’s Pat Leonard pushed for the same.
“The Giants have fired head coach Brian Daboll, a source confirms. Overdue. Joe Schoen should be next,” Leonard prefaced before saying, “Some players not even at the building yet.”
The winds of change started blowing, but there might not be a front office switch until the offseason. Whoever is in charge next has a pivotal 2026 draft to build around Dart on offense and add depth to a star-studded defense that lacks production outside of its highest-paid players.
