Giants rumor pinpoints possible favorite for defensive coordinator job image

With John Harbaugh hired, the New York Giants head coach is now looking to fill out his staff, and especially the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator jobs.

One name to keep an eye on, according to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, is former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.

As Jones notes, Weaver is drawing interest for multiple head-coaching vacancies, but if he doesn't land one, Jones reports that Weaver could join Harbaugh in New York.

"Anthony Weaver remains in the running for multiple head coach jobs, but if he doesn't get one, keep an eye on him to potentially join John Harbaugh in New York as Giants defensive coordinator," Jones reported. "The two worked together in Baltimore for three years and could reunite with the Giants."

Weaver worked under Harbaugh in Baltimore for three seasons, holding roles such as the defensive line coach, run-game coordinator and assistant head coach in that span.

Weaver appears to be in the mix for three head coach jobs currently.

He has been requested to interview for the Buffalo Bills' head-coaching job, and he has completed a second interview with the Ravens and is scheduled to complete a second with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Of course, if offered any of those three jobs, chances are Weaver will take one of them over being a defensive coordinator.

A two-time defensive coordinator, Weaver had his most success with the Dolphins in 2024, when Miami's defense ranked fourth in total yards allowed per game, 10th in points, ninth in rushing yards and ninth in passing yards.

If the Giants land him, Weaver would be a strong hire for Harbaugh.

Weaver isn't the only former Ravens coach who might join Harbaugh in New York, as former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is widely considered the favorite for the same role with the Giants.
