After parting ways with Brian Daboll, the New York Giants will be in the market for a new head coach over the offseason. There also has been a lot of buzz about the Pittsburgh Steelers potentially moving on from head coach Mike Tomlin.

Is there a world where Tomlin could be the head coach of the Giants next season? Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report seems to think so, as he listed the Giants as an ideal landing spot for the veteran head coach.

Knox pointed to New York’s solid defensive core, as well as its standing as a premier franchise, as reasons why Tomlin might be interested in the gig.

“The Giants also have some solid defensive contributors—like Dexter Lawrence, Brian Burns and Abdul Carter—who should appeal to Tomlin and his defensive background,” Knox wrote. “… Plus, the opportunity to return one of the league's premier franchises to relevance and potentially cement a Hall of Fame career would be hard to ignore.”

If the Steelers were to part ways with Tomlin, he’d likely have several suitors, so there’s no guarantee that he would even choose the Giants in the first place.

There’s also no guarantee that the Steelers will move on from Tomlin, who led them to a victory in Super Bowl XLIII. That’s a complete hypothetical at this point. However, some Steelers legends have publicly encouraged the organization to finally move on from Tomlin, including James Harrison and Ben Roethlisberger.

“Something has to be done,” Harrison said. “I know the Steelers historically don’t move on from coaches, but I think it’s time that history be made, because right now the only history we’re making is being the worst Pittsburgh Steelers team statistically almost in the history of the organization.”

Tomlin’s future could ultimately be determined by how the Steelers, currently 6-6, finish out the season. If they make a run to the postseason, perhaps he stays. If not, then perhaps he could become a legitimate candidate for New York to consider.
