Giants' Jaxson Dart-Eli Manning connection, relationship bode well for franchise QB from Ole Miss image

The last time the New York Giants traded in the first round for a quarterback, he played for Ole Miss.

Welcome to deja vu late Thursday night, when the Giants traded back into the first round for a QB from Ole Miss.

Of course, that first one was Eli Manning in 2004, who went No. 1 to the Chargers before the Giants quickly swung a deal for him. Manning's history is well documented, including two Super Bowls.

The Giants would love for Jaxson Dart, the next Rebels' QB in town, to have as much success as Manning.

Dart actually outdid Manning at Ole Miss, breaking his career passing-yardage record (10,617 to 10,119).

The pair have a strong relationship. Dart has called Manning a "huge role model" in the past.

Dart isn't as highly thought of as Manning was in his draft year.

Manning was the surefire No. 1 pick who just seemingly didn't want to play for the team in the top spot that year.

Dart wasn't a sure-thing first rounder, but the Giants liked him enough to give up a package that essentially amounted to two third-round picks in net value to come up for Dart.

He'll get to learn behind Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, which could be great for his development.

Manning also spends time around his old team, and so it's safe to expect he and Dart can rekindle their relationship. That can only help this latest Ole Miss NFL QB have a chance to be like the greatest one.
