After hiring John Harbaugh, the New York Giants are likely to be active in free agency.
Harbaugh made it quite clear he expects the Giants to make the playoffs in Year 1, but there is work to do on both sides of the ball if New York wants to make that a reality in 2026.
When it comes to their free-agency plans, SNY's Connor Hughes reports that the expectation is the Giants will be aggressive in targeting former Ravens.
The idea there is that Harbaugh wants to bring in players who are familiar with "his message in the locker room," Hughes notes.
Hughes specifically mentions Ravens center and pending free agent Tyler Linderbaum as a potential option for New York.
"From what I’ve been told, expect the Giants to be aggressive in targeting ex-Ravens in free agency. Harbaugh wants people who know his way to carry out his message in locker room. Tyler Linderbaum would be one I’d keep an eye on," Hughes said.
Before the Giants can even consider being aggressive in free agency, they've got to improve their cap space situation. As things stand now, New York is slated to have just $1.8 million before making cuts, trades and/or restructures.
Linderbaum is an interesting name to bring up for the Giants.
New York already has a starting center under contract for next season in John Michael Schmitz, but there's no doubt Linderbaum would be an upgrade.
If the Giants do spring for Linderbaum, we could see the Giants moving Schmitz over to guard, where they have a hole to fill with Greg Van Roten set to hit free agency this offseason.
Connections are important in the NFL, so it's logical to think Harbaugh could bring in some of his former players in his first season as Giants head coach.
