Giants cut ties with international kicker who lost them a brutal blown lead image

The New York Giants have had a lot of kickers on their roster this season.

On Tuesday, they got rid of one.

They've released Jude McAtamney, the kicker from Northern Ireland.

McAtamney had spent recent weeks on the practice squad in the international player spot that doesn't count toward the limit of 16 players on the practice squad.

He hasn't kicked since his nightmare day earlier in the season, when he missed two extra points in a one-point loss to the Broncos.

The Giants currently have Younghoe Koo kicking with Graham Gano out injured for the second time this season.

New York doesn't have a lot to play for at this point, so it probably wouldn't hurt to see what Koo can provide after a mostly strong career in Atlanta had a bad ending.

McAtamney, in the end, didn't look like much of an NFL kicker.

It's unlikely to expect him to get many more chances in the league. He could benefit from that International Pathway Program spot with another team, though.

Kickers have moved around the NFL a lot this season, as usual. Teams are always looking for an answer at that position for struggling players.

For the Giants, McAtamney was just one step in that process, and now he's gone.
