Abdul Carter gets $45 million contract update after being drafted by Giants image

The New York Giants landed a blue-chip prospect with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

After addressing the quarterback position during free agency leading into the draft, it was expected that the Giants would simply go best-player-available at No. 3. When Cam Ward and Travis Hunter went off the board ahead of the Giants, the selection of Penn State star Abdul Carter was an easy choice.

When it comes to his rookie deal, Spotrac revealed that Carter will get a fully guaranteed four-year, $45.1 million contract. He'll also receive a $29.5 million signing bonus and the deal includes a fifth-year option for 2029.

At $11.3 million per season, Carter is already the 18th highest-paid player among NFL defensive ends, per Spotrac.

Carter transitioned from the off-ball linebacker spot to edge rusher in 2024, and he made it look seamless. He excelled in the new role, racking up 12 sacks and 66 total pressures across 16 games during his final season with the Nittany Lions.

Here's what Dane Brugler wrote about Carter in his scouting report from The Athletic draft guide:

"Overall, Carter is a disruptive presence, because of his explosive nature and how he mixes up his rushes to win with speed, force and a budding arsenal of moves. He projects as a 1A pass rusher, with a gift for consistently making the quarterback move his feet and making plays in the run game.

The Giants are now boasting one of the strongest pass-rushing groups in the NFL after adding Carter, and there's a good chance he becomes a cornerstone piece in the Meadowlands.
