Bill Belichick is increasingly losing interest in his North Carolina Tar Heels. According to former New York Daily News columnist Gary Myers, Belichick has his sights set on winning a Super Bowl with the Giants.
As Myers relayed, Belichick’s primary goal would be to win without Tom Brady and spite his former New England Patriots quarterback, who often gets credited for building a six-championship dynasty in Foxborough. Brady is currently a highly compensated broadcaster for FOX Sports on NFL Sundays. Famously, the Giants upset his Patriots twice in the Super Bowl as an underdog.
Revenge would be served indeed.
Myers mentioned Belichick’s relationship with Giants owner John Mara as a potential selling point for the ending of “Chapel Bill” and the return of “Big Blue Bill.”
“I think Belichick would do it in a second,” Myers said on the ‘Valentine’s Views’ podcast. “I know that’s (the record for victories) important to him, although he’ll never admit that. I also know it’s important to him to win a Super Bowl without (Tom) Brady. I think it’s something Belichick very much wants to do.
“He (Belichick) loves the Giants. I mean he LOVES the Giants. He gets emotional and melancholy reminiscing about his Giant years. Although that was a long time ago, the Giants have stolen his heart.
“I do know that John Mara has a good relationship with Bill. Whether that means he would hire him, I don’t know.”
Belichick is finally seeing progress in Chapel Hill with his Tar Heels. North Carolina picked up a 27-10 win on Halloween night against the Syracuse Orange, good for Belichick's first ACC win. Perhaps he ran into some of his old friends in New York during his visit to the Empire State.
If any conversation was had, it sounds like it was a positive one. Especially if it was about an NFL return.
