The New York Giants once again bolstered the defensive line in the 2025 NFL Draft.
After a big night in Round 1 that included the selection of edge rusher Abdul Carter at No. 3 and a massive trade back into the first round to select quarterback Jaxson Dart at No. 25, the Giants were finally on the board for the first time in Day 2 at No. 65 overall.
With that selection, which kicked off the third round, the Giants picked Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander.
This was a massive need for the Giants to address going into the draft. Though other positions took precedence, there's a good chance that Alexander will work his way into a prominent role within the interior defensive line.
Alexander joins a defensive tackle room that includes All-Pro talent Dexter Lawrence, Rakeem Nunez-Roches and Elijah Chatman.
At 6-foot-3 and 305 pounds, Alexander appeared in 58 games while making 27 starts at Toledo. He recorded 9.0 sacks and 22 tackles for loss throughout his collegiate career, but he wasn't a starter until the final two seasons.
Here's what Dane Brugler of The Athletic said about Alexander in his draft guide:
"Overall, Alexander isn't yet the full sum of his impressive parts, but his blend of power, length and athletic body control give him the makings of a three-down, scheme-versatile NFL starter. He projects best in an attacking role, where he'd be able to maximize his disruptive traits. His peak plays are reminiscent of Leonard Williams."
Those comps to Williams could bode well for the Giants if they get him going downhill as a pass-rusher. It will be interesting to see how quickly Alexander can work into the rotation, but there's certainly upside there.
Barring a trade into the third round, the Giants have no more selections on Day 2.
