The New York Giants began the final day of the 2025 NFL Draft bolstering the backfield.
Despite the breakout season Tyrone Tracy Jr. provided for New York during his rookie campaign in 2024, the Giants made it clear throughout the pre-draft process that they wanted to add a complement on early downs.
With the No. 105 pick, the Giants selected Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo.
Skattebo was one of the many running back prospects the Giants brought in for a top-30 visit ahead of the draft. His size would make him an ideal complement to Tyrone Tracy on early downs.
With that said, the 219-pound running back was an excellent receiver in college, posting 45 receptions for 605 yards and three receiving touchdowns in 2024. That was already on top of the 293 carries for 1,711 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns he posted between the tackles.
Skattebo was a First-Team All-American and First-Team All-Big 12 selection in 2024.
Here's what Dane Brugler of The Athletic said about Skattebo in his draft guide:
"Overall, Skattebo is a thickly built, compact runner who is more quick than explosive, but he competes with tremendous resolve and understands how to rely on his pad level and contact balance to get the most out of every carry. He is a draftable option for a team looking to upgrade its backfield physicality."
The Giants still need to add depth to the offensive line, but there were few players more productive than Skattebo in 2024.
