The New Orleans Saints marched into a matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, a near-touchdown underdog on the road.

Led by rookie quarterback Tyler Shough, the Saints pulled off one the larger upsets we've seen in the NFL this season, beating the Bucs 24-20.

Shough had himself a day against Tampa Bay, completing 65% of his passes for 144 yards and an interception, while also rushing seven times for 55 yards and scoring two touchdowns on the ground. Is it enough to prove he should be New Orleans' quarterback moving forward?

Tyler Shough wants to instill belief in his Saints team

In his post-game press conference on Sunday, Shough emphasized wanting to make his teammates believe they have a chance in every game they suit up for.

"I really care about what the guys in the locker room think of me and my coaches, so I mean, for me, I want to instill that belief that we can win every single game, because we can," Shough told reporters.

"However we can get it done, you know, I just love playing football. I said it last week, this is why you do it. I think there's going to be highs and lows with everything, but for me it was a great win."

Since second-year quarterback Spencer Rattler was benched, Shough has taken the reins and not looked back. They've picked up two wins against divisional opponents under the guidance of the former Louisville product and appear to be trending in the right direction of the rebuild.

Shough is making the case that he should be the starter in 2026 and prove he has what it takes to be the Saints' long-term answer under center.
