Trade scenario sees current Cardinals QB Kyler Murray seeking redemption with Saints image

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has had a veritable roller coaster ride of an NFL career since Arizona drafted him number one overall in the 2019 NFL draft. The former Heisman Trophy winner has been the Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler, but he's never led the team to being a legitimate contender.

Now, riddled by injuries and inconsistency, Murray finds himself as a spectator, and potentially even being traded away in the offseason. He will be watching the Cards' Week 10 matchup in Seattle with the Seahawks. It's a tale of two fortunes, as Arizona is 3-5, while Seattle is 6-2.

If Arizona puts Murray up for trade, one team that could be seeking his services is the New Orleans Saints. Currently 1-8, the Saints will likely be in a position to draft a highly-touted prospect. But if they want to go with a veteran under center, Murray would fill that role.

"If the Cardinals were to trade Murray, they would create $35.3 million in cap savings while leaving behind $17.9 million in dead money," ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote. "But some around the league also wonder if it could be that Murray is turning into this year's version of Russell Wilson and Daniel Jones, on a team that does not want to expose itself to having its quarterback get injured and locking in future guaranteed money."

The Saints have former collegiate standout Spencer Rattler as the starter, and he has been largely ineffective. The New Orleans backup is 2025 second-round selection Tyler Shough.
