This past offseason, the New Orleans Saints made a very bold decision to take a quarterback in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
It wasn't just due to the Saints taking a quarterback, but that the one they selected was a 26-year-old rookie in Tyler Shough. But, entering Week 18 of the 2025 season, that decision has been, without question, the right one.
For ESPN writer Katherine Terrell, the Shough praise was lofty. But, more importantly, she made a prediction that is the ideal scenario for Saints fans.
Saints get incredible Tyler Shough prediction from ESPN writer
"They have a quarterback to build around," Terrell writes. "Now, the Saints can go into the offseason with the purpose of building around him."
Terrell's comment is a huge dose of reality for Saints fans, and it's about as ideal a scenario as one could've expected when Shough was drafted.
The second-round rookie quarterback has been a great player in his rookie season, and while he might've gotten his start too late in the year to earn NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, he's more than proven he's worth investing in.
He has 2,125 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions in his eight starts and one relief appearance this season. Most recently, he's been on a tear, throwing for over 300 yards and no interceptions in back-to-back weeks.

Being able to invest in Shough as the franchise quarterback is a huge takeaway from this season. Many times, teams cannot get a clear sense of whether a quarterback is worth investing in or not. That's not the case with Shough.
New Orleans should be fully committed to building a contending team around Shough. Adding another wide receiver to pair with Chris Olave and DeVaughn Vele, improving the interior of the offensive line, and upgrading at running back should all be on the table.
One year ago, the Saints were facing a long, drawn-out rebuild as they tried to find a quarterback after the Derek Carr years. But, just one season later, they've found their guy in Shough, and on a very reasonable draft pick and rookie contract.
Terrell predicts the Saints to build around Shough, which would be confirmation that the Saints hit a home run with the rookie quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.
