Tyler Shough is the oldest quarterback expected to be taken in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Shough is 25 and will turn 26 years old on September 28.

That's who the New Orleans Saints ended up with at the No. 40 overall pick in the draft, early in Friday's second round.

It was a bit of a surprise, mostly given that Shedeur Sanders was still on the board. Jalen Milroe and Quinn Ewers were still available, too.

Shough made a late rise up draft boards. He threw the ball well and measured well during combine season to put himself in position to be taken this high.

Remarkably, Shough was in college football since 2018.

He started with three seasons at Oregon.

Then it was three more seasons with Texas Tech.

He came to Louisville for 2024, throwing for 3,195 yards and 23 TDs compared to six interceptions.

Shough, who is capable of a lot of arm angles, completed 62.7 percent of his passes for the Cardinals.

The Saints may need a new starter sooner rather than later if Derek Carr's injury is serious.

They also have Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener and Ben DiNucci currently under contract.

Ironically, Rattler was born exactly 365 days after Shough.

The Saints hope they have their quarterback of the future. They'll just have to hope his lengthy college career and inability to reach the pros before he was nearly 26 doesn't hold him back.
