Saints QB Tyler Shough named Grand Marshal of Mardi Gras parade, report says image

New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough has been named the Grand Marshal for the Krewe of Pygmalion parade during Mardi Gras, according to WDSU-6.

The honor comes on the heels of a strong and memorable rookie campaign in which Shough emerged as a late-season standout for the Saints.

The Arizona native and second-round pick finished the year with a 5-4 record as a starter, completing 67.6% of his passes for 2,384 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions while posting a 91.3 quarterback rating. His late surge earned him recognition as the final NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month of the season.

With his performance down the stretch, Shough has firmly positioned himself as the Saints’ projected starting quarterback moving forward.

As he continues to settle into life in New Orleans, Shough has embraced the city and its traditions. He told reporters earlier this week that he is eager to immerse himself in the local culture.

“I'm a makeshift New Orleanian,” Shough said Monday, one day after the Saints’ season-ending loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

This year’s Mardi Gras celebration carries added significance for Shough and his family, as the festival coincides with the due date for his and his wife Jordan’s first child in February. Sources told WDSU that two SUVs will be stationed in front of and behind the parade float, prepared to escort the couple to the hospital should Jordan go into labor during the event.

Shough has also been seen regularly around the city, including at multiple New Orleans Pelicans games this season, further signaling his growing connection to his new home
