Saints place breakout WR on injured reserve, likely ending his season image

Before their Week 16 matchup against the New York Jets, the New Orleans Saints placed wide receiver Devaughn Vele on injured reserve, WWLAM's Jeff Nowak reported on Friday.

Vele, 28, suffered a shoulder injury in the Week 15 win over the Carolina Panthers. It resulted in the receiver being forced into a sling.

Although the injury doesn't appear to be significant, the Saints placed him on IR to open up a roster spot. Vele will miss the remaining three games of the 2025 season.

Devaughn Vele's season in review

After being traded to the Saints from the Denver Broncos this past offseason, the receiver stepped into a larger role after New Orleans traded away Rashid Shaheed at the NFL trade deadline.

It took Vele some time to gain momentum, but he appeared to have grown some chemistry with rookie quarterback Tyler Shough once he became the starting quarterback.

In the Saints' last four games, Vele has tallied 19 receptions on 26 targets, 239 receiving yards, and one touchdown.

Despite being 28 years old, the receiver is in just his second year in the league, having been selected in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

New Orleans will have to wait until 2026 to continue to build chemistry between Devaughn Vele and Tyler Shough.
