UNC coach Bill Belichick reaches new level of petty with reported Patriots social media directive image

As North Carolina product and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was in the midst of pulling off a massive upset over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, the program's social media account was oddly silent on it about it.

That was strange because you would think UNC would want to celebrate one of its own in what was easily the biggest win of Maye's NFL career.

Now, we have a possible explanation for why that didn't happen.

According to 247 Sports' Ross Martin, Belichick has put out a directive to not tweet or retweet anything Patriots-related, which is obviously a result of the bad blood between Belichick and the Patriots following his exit in 2024.

"According to sources inside the UNC football program, it is a directive from the staff (Bill Belichick) to not tweet/retweet anything Patriots-related," Martin wrote. "That's clearly why UNC football has not posted anything from Drake Maye's electric primetime win over the Buffalo Bills."

Talk about petty.

This isn't the first petty thing Belichick has done. He has also banned Patriots staff from coming to North Carolina's facility.

"It's clear I'm not welcome there around their facility," he told reporters, per the Tar Heel Tribune. "So, they're not welcome at ours. It’s pretty simple."

While the Patriots are starting to thrive under head coach Mike Vrabel, Belichick's stint in North Carolina has not been good.

UNC is 2-3 to start the Belichick's tenure, but the Tar Heels have been blown out bad in their three losses, which have come against TCU, UCF and Clemson. In those games, UNC has lost by a combined score of 120-33.

It's a real shame the Tar Heels can't even celebrate one of their own, and it's even worse that directive is coming from a coach who has fallen well short of expectations thus far.
