When the New England Patriots take the field against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1, we should see the debut of rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson.
We say "should" because it remains unclear how much Henderson will play. He is listed as the RB3 on New England's depth chart, but he also showed more than enough during the preseason to garner a role right away.
Henderson's biggest competition for work figures to be veteran Rhamondre Stevenson, who inked a four-year, $36 million deal last year.
However, Stevenson is anything but cemented in place atop the depth chart. After all, he has had countless fumbling issues during his career and losing one on Sunday could put him in Mike Vrabel's doghouse.
Henderson was electric in the preseason. The rookie took a kickoff return 100 yards to the house on his very first touch in exhibition play, and he had a few long gains while seeing snaps on offense the rest of the preseason.
"The Patriots are also ecstatic over rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson, so don’t be surprised if he turns into their lead option," The Athletic's Jeff Howe reported late last month.
It's going to be tough to keep a potential game-changing player like Henderson off the field, but that doesn't mean he's going to dominate touches.
Whatever the case may be, keep it locked in below for all of the latest stat updates for Henderson in his NFL debut on Sunday against the Raiders.
